Tallest and Largest Roman Catholic church in the world



Our Lady of Peace Basilica, Yamoussoukro was completed in 1989 and is 518ft tall. It has a total area of 30,000 square meters. The church is also known as the Basilique de Notre Dame de la Paix de Yamoussoukro.




It is situated on the Ivory Coast, in Africa.The Basilica was was consecrated on September 10 1990, by Pope John Paul II.The basilica is constructed with exotic materials. It contains marble imported from Italy as well as 7000 square meters of contemporary stained glass from France.7000 people can be seated in the nave, and there is standing room for an additional 11000 people throughout.

It has the world's tallest church dome. It is the tallest Roman Catholic church in the world and the tallest church in Africa.



There is debate over whether the Vatican's St Peter's Basilica is larger, however Yamoussoukro holds the record according to the Guinness World Records which lists it as the largest church in the world, having surpassed the previous recordholder, St. Peter's Basilica, upon completion.
