Opener Murali Vijay struck a vital half-century as Chennai snapped a string of defeats by beating Bangalore by five wickets.
A measured half-century from Jacques Kallis (52) had helped Bangalore to 161 for four after Anil Kumble had decided to bat first.
Vijay, however, made light of that total, smashing a 39-ball 78 and Suresh Raina chipped in with an excellent, unbeaten 44 as Chennai coasted to victory - only their third in eight matches.
Kevin Pietersen (23 not out) and Cameron White (21 not out) - both playing for the first time this season - lifted Bangalore with useful cameos at the end.
