Katherine Bigelow becomes first woman to win Best Director for her film The Hurt Locker. Bigelow is the first woman in the 82-year history of the Oscars to earn Hollywood's top prize for filmmakers.





Sandra Bullock wins the Best Actress Award for The Blind Side. She plays Leigh Anne Tuohy, a suburban mom who takes in a homeless African-American teenager and encourages his talents as a football player.




Animated film Up wins Best Original Score by Michael Giacchino.




Director James Cameron's Avatar has bagged in all three Oscars.




Christoph Waltz won the supporting-actor Academy Award for his role as a sociable fiend of a Nazi in Inglourious Basterds.





Mo'Nique took home the Academy award for the Best Supporting Actress for Precious.
